Editorial Review for Qube – by Anna Roth

The Scene
This modern space makes the most of its industrial elements--steel supporting beams are painted traffic-cone orange and support a minimalist wine rack, while one wall is brilliant neon green. A long, elevated, back-lit communal table dominates the dining room and seats singles and couples; larger groups occupy the sleek black tables in the rest of the dining room. Servers are well-versed in the complicated menu and explain everything, sometimes to a fault.

The Food
The menu offers variations on a single theme: Diner can choose between three-course veggie, surf or turf "sets" that highlight three versions of three different ingredients. Sometimes this conceit is phenomenal, as with the foie gras course in the "ruby" (meat) set--a trio of silky foie gras crème brulee, perfectly seared portion and a smooth terrine--though most of the time one or more of the dishes in the sets fall short.

The menu also offers more traditional Asian-inspired starters and entrees, like grilled tiger prawns with red curry and roasted duck breast with honey and pomegranate.

What to Drink

The cocktails are innovative and gorgeously presented, often garnished with edible orchids. Many make use of herb-infused liquor (like clove gin) or Asian alcohol varieties. There's also a long wine and sake list.

Shut down in July due to poor business. They got what they deserved. Stuffing citysearch ballot boxes to win audience awards, deleting unfavorable customer reviews, and writing fake favorable reviews isn't just unethical and in poor taste, it can destroy a restaurant that can't meet high customer expectations it generates. A confusing business model that focused more on style instead of substance didn't help either. Karma sukks losers dry.

Pros: Interesting Decor

Cons: Unethical

....Another place to avoid if you have food allergies, as you will NOT be accomodated. Qube's chef is downright hostile to people with food allergies. He came out to discuss the menu with my allergic friend. Based on the chef's description, she ordered the Kobe Beef. The chef told her it was unavailable, though another person in our party ordered and received it, as did a few nearby diners. The chef was very clear that he not only refused to prepare something especially for my friend, he'd make sure she couldn't eat anything at all while she was in his little empire. I have seen very few places as dismissive of the needs of its customers.

Cons: ULTRA-CRAPPY SERVICE

This ultra-hip Belltown restaurant and lounge offers pan-Asian flavors and plenty of modern attitude.  See the full editorial review.
