A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE. I and my family went shopping for the first time at Camp Hill's Capital City Mall the other day. As far as malls go, Capital City Mall was very appealing ... my 4-year old granddaughter even got to talk to Santa, which was an unexpected surprise. My "painful experience" began when I was unable to find a bench to sit and rest after walking for a while. You see, I am a 56 year old woman with Ankylosing Spondilitis, a very painful auto-immune arthritic condition that causes severe pain in my spine, as well as all the joints of my body. The mall is a big place and requires a lot of walking. I walk with the aid of a cane, but I still need to sit periodically to get relief. There were VERY FEW benches located throughout the mall and those were occupied by teenagers! Needless to say, our shopping experience prematurely ended. I left in extreme pain and continued to suffer at home for the next 4-5 hours. Malls are NOT just for teens! Accommodations should be made in order to ensure that the elderly, disabled, AND pregnant women have ample seating so that THEY can also enjoy their shopping experience. I am NEVER going back to Capital City Mall, nor is anyone in my family.
