We always enjoy the wonderful pasties
from the Pennsylvania Bakery. I'm astonished to read a few of the reviews, but also realize that when an individual is unhappy it's something you really want to let people know. When we are happy we don't usually spread it as far and wide.
I find the bakery to have the best selection of unusual and specialty cakes - always delicious!
PA Bakery....HUGE OOPS!.
Last week I ordered by phone two birthday cakes. I specified one cake was for pick up on Thursday morning (today) for 7:30 A.M. and the second cake is to be picked up on Friday morning (tomorrow) at 7:30 A.M.. This morning I arrived at PA Bakery to pick up my first cake. The first woman starts to assist me and starts looking for my order. I explained it's a 7" Strawberry Shortcake. She continues to look for my order. After about 10 minutes going by then proceeds to ask me what name is it under More time passes and then asks what name it's under. After about 20 minutes have passed and a second person assisting me, they come to say my cake was NOT READY!
I had already pre-paid, which the money was taken out of the business account right away, of course. Also ordered a week prior to the date.
After looking through their paperwork and acting as though I never placed my phone order, she finds my order. She then tells me, it was placed on the hook to be prepared for Friday's pickup along with the second cake. Really????
After giving the oh it's really not that big of a mistake attitude to me, they only thing she can offer to me is either free delivery or credit for the cake and I pick it up later. I currently took the free delivery because I needed the birthday cake.
Once the cake was delivered, it looked as though the cake was quickly thrown together, which it was, and not had the proper time of decorating it.
In the future, I will not be ordering our businesses inter-office birthday cakes from them and highly recommend NOT ordering from them for anyone.
Poor quality and certainly poor customer service.
Avoid PA Bakery - The quality has DECLINED!!!.
Pay less and get the same OR BETTER quality at Giant or even Walmart!!! Oh, and skip the rude managers too!
I purchased 1/4 sheet cake (red velvet) for my daughter's birthday party. It was an edible image of Cinderella Castle (the cartoon-one, not a photograph).
When I arrived to pick up the cake 1 hour before the party, I realized that several things were wrong:
1) They did not use the edible image I chose - a colorful cartoon version of Cinderella Castle.
2) The edible image they used was a photograph of the Castle with SCAFFOLDING and heavy equipment in front of it!
3) Only part of the cake was red velvet. The top was white cake. (paid extra for specialty cake?)
4) The raised edible image section was crooked (1" on one end, and 1/2 " on the other and crooked side to side too).
5) They didn't use cream cheese icing (as specified)... they used regular buttercream. Oh, but when I said that, they basically said I was wrong and it was cream cheese icing... still curious how they came to that conclusion, since they didn't consume it and I did.
6) The edible image didn't fit the raised area. There was white space between the top and bottom of the image. So, the picture didn't fit and they didn't bother correcting the problem.
A very sloppy job for a $50.00 cake!
I originally asked for the owner's name and number, but they were very hesitant to provide that information. I didn't want to talk to the manager of the store (Pam) because she was very unconcerned (she waited on me when I picked up the cake, and when I said it wasn't up to their standards, she basically gave me a "too bad" attitude).
I called a few times, and finally she called me back today. She was very aggressive and had a combative attitude from the start - even though I was trying to be nice. Basically, she offered me a $10 store credit.
I told her that wasn't going to make this better. What I would've accepted was at least a $25 credit back to my credit card. I'm not unreasonable... we ate the cake, so I'm willing to pay what I would've paid had I gotten it from Giant.
NOPE - she basically said that was the deal. I said "keep it". I'll just tell everyone I know that PA Bakery isn't the place to go anymore.
So, here I am... an unhappy customer who was treated rudely with a "who cares" attitude from a rude Manager (Pam) and an unresponsive store owner.
Save your money and get better quality and deal with nicer people. Go to Giant.
PS: I do not work for Giant... I'm simply saying that their prices are better, and so is their quality.
Avoid and do better elsewhere.
I had high expectations for the PA Bakery, it looks nice from the outside and is nicely decorated.
However, that is where the nicety ends. The baked goods produced are no better than anywhere else in town and don't ever order custom here. I would agree with the other comments on this site from my experience. If something goes wrong on their side, they basic have a Oh Well attitude and do nothing to help to fix it. I specifically asked to talk to the manager and spoke to the owner named Ken.
He pretty much said tough... I really wished I would have ordered somewhere else.
Hopefully, I can save someone else the trouble and prevent others from this trap place to avoid. There are many other choices in the area that are still local and actually care about the baked products they produce.
Don't custom order at the PA Bakery!
Outstanding Service, Excellent Product, Cozy Location.
The Pennsylvania Bakery is by far one of my favorite places to visit! Their pastries are absolutely delicious. I'm a big fan of their tarts. The staff is warm and friendly, and the owners are so sweet and welcoming. I love to stop in and have a lemon poppyseed muffin with a hot cup of coffee. MMMM sooo good!
I work at a car dealership and have picked up breakfast pastries for all of my co-workers. There is usually a mad dash for the pretty pink pastry box full of goodies. Its such a treat!
I have had coffee and dessert with a group of my girlfriends at the bakery. Its an excellent meeting place. I love the display of wedding cakes. They are fabulous! I saw some pictures on the Pennsylvania Bakery facebook page...whoever designs and constructs those cakes have seriously got some talent. I saw incredible wedding, graduation, birthday, and baby shower cakes on there....they are to die for! I am definitely ordering my wedding cake from there. I really think the designer could be a serious contender on one of those cake designing reality shows.
Oh and the last thing I gotta mention are the breads! They have this spagetti bread that is incredible! You Have Got to Try It!! Ok now I'm hungry....
Rude Owner. Thank you PA Bakery for being so responsive! After spending more than $100, an hour of my time with one of your employees, and providing the crib blanket with the design on it and multiple photos to assist your cake designer, you provided a cake that was NOT what I ordered. And the cupcakes that went with it looked li...ke they came from Giant. White icing spraypainted pink - the order sheet CLEARLY spelled out what colors the cupcakes were to be. I didn't pay TPB prices because I wanted cupcakes that looked like Giant. When I asked to speak with the owner Ken, he dismissed me and said take it or leave it. REALLY!?!? Baby shower was in one hour. I won't be coming back to your store!
Rude. Their staff is rude, and their baked goods are average. I would put the quality around the same as my local Giant foods.
Ruined my wedding cake!!!. I searched and hunted for a wedding cake months in advance. I even paid them the $400 in full 6 MONTHS in advance. The week before my wedding they finally disclosed to me that they DO NOT set up the cake. The day of my wedding came and each of the three layers of my wedding cake were mangled. The top and bottom layers were smashed against the side and top of their boxes, and the middle layer was cracked beyond belief. My caterer managed to scrape the icing from the box, wet it, and spread it with a heated knife (thank goodness I hadn't chosen an ornate design or colors), and my florist covered any other damage with flowers. I tried to contact the owner to talk to them about it, and they responded to none of my messages. They reuined my wedding cake and don't find themselves accountable. I've heard the stories before, but now I know that this is one bakery that should stay out of the wedding cake business!!
