15 to 20 years ago, I'd say go! This
was a fun place, a popular neighborhood joint. The media was all over this place for a shooting in that happened in the late 80's. We all knew it then as the "Peaceful, safe and quite area of Camp Hill". Anyone remember this?
Today, if you are a single lady, (not a gold digger), looking for an overweight Middle PA, good old boy, well this is your place.
As soon as you walk in you are overwhelmed by smoke.
Really? Smoking in an public establishment. Didn't this area get the memo?
The last time we were in the area, all I remember is waking up and driving to the local washateria to clean up the food from the night before on my fathers comforter.
15 years ago, I would have given this establishment a 9.5
Today!!? ( :( ) Well lets just say, that since my father passed away a few days ago, I have no desire to stop in here anymore unless I am in the mood for wings. They are tasty! However today they would be ordered "TO GO" Wait,, isn't this place known for Mexican food? Lets just say, If you want good Mexican food, move to Texas.
It hurts me to write negative remarks to a place I grew up going to every weekend.
Will Rogers once quoted: “People's minds are changed through observation and not through argument”. 15 to 20 years of observing and well........... :(
not a place i would go again.
i went in last friday the bartender jean was very rude when i told her my food was cold. went back later that nite she was doing powder with the guy bartender they came from out of the kitchen with it on thier nose made me sick she got wasted and the owner did to not a place i would ever step foot into again thats for sure
Great Mexican Food.
I have been eating at the Madre for 28 years. I worked there, took my kids there and still eat there! I had lunch there today and it was awesome. I had the open faced tenderloin steak sandwich with sauteed onions and mushrooms and a side of slaw. I can name on one hand the "not up to par meals" over all those years.
Those of you that complained, obviously have no taste!!!!!!!!!
It's a bar, not a restaurant.
Food is terrible, bar food at best. Our waitress was a pregnanat woman working her way around a smoke filled bar, very symbolic of the bar in general. They sling drinks here, nothing else. The regulars are exactly that, regulars. Typical cool guy bartender was there both times, he clearly joins the rest of the crew for powder pick-me-up breaks.
Horrible. Avoid it. Warn others to avoid it..
WARNING! STAY AWAY!! Not only is it overpriced, but they really don't want you there. I went tonight to watch a football game. I had to beg them to turn on the game. I had to beg them to turn it up so I could hear. The food was middlin', at best. The drinks were overpriced. Then as soon as we paid the check, they made it clear we were no longer welcome (I left a 20% tip, but that made no difference). In fact, as soon as we paid, we were informed they were turning off the game because a DJ was coming on. Lousy sports bar. Overpriced. Rude service.
These People Will Rip You Off!!.
I have a trusted friend who has previously told me that while sitting at the bar watching football and baseball, on several visits his bill reflected items, which were not ordered or received. He also indicated that bill totals have been increased when he received his bank statement. The employees have always insisted he was mistaken. Last night I went to watch he Yankees and Sox game and I noticed that 3 beers were added to my bill, which my girlfriend and I never received. All I got as a bad attitude from the bartender, his complaining of his gambling debts also raises my suspicions further. I you must go, pay for everything individually or they will steal your money!
